National Housing Trust To Build 12000 Houses

General

NHTTHE National Housing Trust (NHT) will reportedly start construction on 12,000 houses over the next 18 months in six parishes. The total cost will be in the region of J$29 billion.

We think that this is perhaps not the most fantastic initiative undertaken by the Trust but it certainly is an ambitious programme. The challenge is to keep the cost of those houses down,” said Howard Mitchell, Chairman of the NHT.

The new NHT houses will include units under the Sugar Workers Housing Programme (SWHP), as well as units sold on the open market. The Union Estate, a new 746 house scheme under construction at Twickenham Park in St. Catherine is one example of units that fall under the SWHP.

So far, the NHT plans to offer houses and land at:

  • Longville in Clarendon (600 houses and 234 serviced lots)
  • Perth in Manchester (1,343 houses and 257 serviced lots)
  • Providence in St. James (148 serviced lots)
  • Bushy Park in Clarendon (67 studios as well as one and two-bedroom houses)
  • Bernard Lodge in St. Catherine (402 serviced lots under SWHP)
  • Frome in Westmoreland (115 houses under SWHP)
  • Stokes Hall in St. Thomas (149 serviced lots under SWHP)
  • Hampden in Trelawny (288 lots under SWHP)

My x-husband acquired a 3bdrm house over 15 yrs ago from nht. My name was added to the title at the time. Now that we are divorced over 10 yrs, I now want to own a house of my own. What should I do to make this a reality, considering my name is still on the title (tennants in common)?
