Improved NHT Home Grants For Low-Income Contributors

Sun, Sep 9, 2012

The National Housing Trust (NHT) is on a mission – more money, easier access and improved home grants for low-income contributors.

You can now get better benefits from the NHT Home Grants facility. The non-repayable one-time grants are available for use in combination with NHT Homeowner’s loans to buy land or a residential property, or to build a house.

Home Grants are based on the NHT’s quarterly operational surplus. 280 Home Grants are available right now at a total value of J$336 million. These are based on the NHT’s surplus for the quarters ending December 31, 2011 and March 2012.

Now, with the new improvements from the NHT:

  • All successful applicants get the full J$1.2 million grant
  • Applications are accepted daily
  • Selections are based on a first come-first served basis (except when applications surpass the daily quota of funds)

You can qualify for an NHT Home Grant if you are an NHT contributor earning J$10,000 or less weekly and you:

  • Have contributed for at least 10 years
  • Are not already a homeowner
  • Have never received an NHT Housing benefit, other than a House Lot or Serviced Lot Loan.

  • Home Grant applicants can co-apply with other contributors who earn more than J$10,000 weekly.
  • You should apply only when you are actually ready to use the grant (i.e. you have found the property and are in negotiations to buy it)
