NHT Update – Hurricane Sandy Insurance Claims

All National Housing Trust (NHT) Mortgagors who have suffered damage as a result of Hurricane Sandy are entitled to submit a claim, by Friday December 7, 2012 at any NHT office.

You need to submit the following:

  • A completed peril insurance claim form (available at all NHT offices)
  • An estimate of the damage
  • Photograph of the damage (if possible)
  • Valid identification (passport, driver’s license or national ID) and TRN
  • A letter of authorization (if someone other than the mortgagor is processing the claim). This letter should be witnessed by a Justice of the Peace or a Notary Public, and should be accompanied by a notarized copy of the mortgagor’s identification and TRN

Please note:

  1. Damaged items should be kept and shown to Loss Adjusters as part of their assessment
  2. Temporary repair may be undertaken in cases where failure to do so would result in further damage. Receipts should be kept for submission with the claim
  3. The NHT mortgagor is responsible for covering the first two percent of the sum insured
  4. The NHT reserves the right to pay claims in installments. This policy does not cover loss or damage to contents
